Everyone who works with Dangerous Goods and Hazardous Material must have the proper training and current certification. Training requirements follow the mode of transportation involved, meaning that there is different training for air, sea, road and rail, as well as the job function performed. Irrespective, all employer/employee training certification must adhere to the training requirements detailed per 49 CFR, Subpart H for which all modes and job functions apply:

  • It is the employer's responsibility to ensure their employees receive training.
  • The employee may not perform their duties unless they have received training.
  • The employer may provide training or use an outside source.
  • The training must include a test.

Employees Must Be Trained in the Following Areas:

  • General Awareness Training: provides familiarity with the requirements and allows employees to recognize Dangerous Goods / Hazardous Materials in their workplace.
  • Function-Specific Training: : Provide training related to the employees specific tasks and responsibilities related to their positions.
  • Safety Training: Provide emergency response training and crisis handling in the event of an emergency in the work place. This includes safety and accident prevention training.

Other Requirements:

  • The employee must bereceive function specific and safety training within 90 days of being hired or of a change in their job function(s).
  • Employees who have not completed their training can only perform their jobs under the direct supervision of a properly trained and knowledgeable employee.
  • Prior training with current certification will satisfy legal requirements so long as complete records from a previous employer are available.
  • Maintenance of employee records is mandatory and includes:
    checked  Employee's name.
    checked  Date of most recent completed training.
    checked  A description, copy, or the location of the training materials used.
    checked  Name and address of who provided the training.
    checked  Certification that the employee has been trained and tested.

We offer a tracking service for employee certification and a monitoring scheme to ensure full compliance with government regulations.
